Description
The City of Northville is accepting applications for a part-time Parking & Code Enforcement (PACE) Officer. This position works across two departments — under the supervision of the Police Chief for parking enforcement, and under the supervision of the Community Development Director for zoning and ordinance compliance.
Requirements
This is an active, community-facing role suited to individuals who are self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently outdoors.
Job Summary: Provide consistent enforcement of City parking regulations and ordinances. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Enforce parking time limits within posted areas and other parking-related infractions
Receive and investigate complaints regarding violations of City ordinances
Interact with and advise property owners and business owners on code enforcement issues
Conduct on-site inspections to determine the validity of complaints and extent of violations
Generate and serve notices of violation to violators
Conduct re-inspections of violation sites to ensure all violations have been corrected
Prepare and issue citations, which may include formal presentation in court
Assist the City's Prosecuting Attorney in obtaining resolution of ordinance violations
Research, investigate, write, and submit reports on code enforcement matters
Communicate ongoing issues to the Police Chief and Community Development Director
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous ordinance enforcement or law enforcement experience preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn City software systems (e.g., BS&A)
Strong organizational skills with ability to document and track inspections, complaints, and violations
Effective written and verbal communication with residents and property owners
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Ability to handle stressful situations and work effectively with difficult individuals
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to operate City vehicles
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods
Compensation: This is a part-time, non-union position. The position includes a flexible schedule of 24 hours per week.
Based on a 24-hour week part-time employee:
Start with a bank of 40 vacation hours
Earn sick time in accordance with the Earned Sick Time Act
Paid holidays (4.8 hours each of 14 holidays)
10% defined contribution plan
