Description

The Assistant Law Director shall provide legal services on behalf of the Law Director’s Office to the City of Marietta, Ohio, and to such other entities and individuals as may be the Law Director’s statutory obligation to represent.

The primary responsibility of the position is the prosecution of criminal cases in the Marietta Municipal Court, involving crimes of violence.  Additional duties, criminal in nature, include, but are not limited to, conducting training sessions for law enforcement personnel, preparing memorandums concerning amendments to statutes, issuing legal opinions concerning criminal actions, and drafting forms for use in criminal proceedings.

The secondary responsibilities are civil in nature.  They include, but are not limited to, representation of the Marietta City Board of Education and the Marietta-Belpre Board of Health in the entire spectrum of their legal needs, and such other similar duties as the Law Director may from time to time prescribe.

Requirements

Applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school; must have taken and passed the Ohio State Bar Examination; and must be licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.  A primary requirement of the job is to be able to write grants and be proficient with Excel spread sheets.  Applicant will be required to give legal advice to law enforcement agencies and provide periodic training seminars to law enforcement.  Courtroom and trial experience is preferred, but not required.
