Description
The Senior Code Officer is a highly responsible and technically skilled professional. The Senior Code Officer is a highly responsible and technical professional position within the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources’ Board and Code Administration Division. The incumbent serves as the primary liaison between Miami-Dade County, municipal building departments, all certified building personnel, licensed contractors, various law enforcement agencies, and manufacturing and construction industries, overseeing efforts to improve safety across the department.
This Senior Code Officer position plans, organizes, and directs advanced technical and professional staff in the building trades, overseeing their operational duties. The role involves participating in the development of the Florida Building Code and its High Velocity Hurricane Zone, as well as providing both administrative and technical support to the Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA), which ensures the consistent enforcement of the Building Code. BORA holds exclusive jurisdiction over both incorporated and unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County regarding its powers, duties, and responsibilities.
Preference: Experience with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Florida Building Code (FBC) – Accessibility, and/or the Florida Fire Prevention Code (FFPC) is highly desired.

Requirements
High school diploma or GED. Five years of experience inspecting building construction or examining plans. Two (2) years of supervisory experience in the construction industry is required. Must possess a Florida or Miami-Dade County General Contractor's License or a Florida Professional Engineer or Registered Architect license maintained for a minimum of five (5) years. All applicants qualifying for employment will be subject to extensive background screening and will be required to inactivate their certification at their own expense upon employment.
