Description
The Town of Charlestown, NH is seeking a progressive, community-oriented Police Chief to lead its full-service police department consisting of five (5) full-time officers, two (2) part-time officers, and four (4) full-time dispatchers. With approximately 4,800 residents, Charlestown is a quintessential New England community of 38 square miles on a border shared with Vermont in southwest New Hampshire along the Connecticut River. Charlestown has easy access to I-91 and is just minutes from Claremont and is 34 miles south of Lebanon with its cultural, medical, and educational assets of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth College. The Town is governed by a five (5) member Selectboard.
A bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Administration or related field is preferred. At least five (5) years in progressively responsible law enforcement supervisory or command positions, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is preferred. Salary range to $100,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications. Excellent benefits.
Though residency is not required, there is a high expectation of community understanding and engagement by the Chief of Police that demonstrates partnership with the Town. A reasonable commuting distance is expected. Charlestown is an equal opportunity employer.
