Description
Job Summary
Performs the duties of a Corrections Officer in accordance with established rules, regulations, post orders, and supervisory instructions. Maintains professional integrity, ethical conduct, and positive community standing both on and off duty. Supports a correctional environment that promotes rehabilitative programming and access to healthcare services aimed at reducing recidivism. This position operates as an armed post.
Trainee Option
Candidates with a high school diploma and no prior experience may be hired in trainee status.
After-Hire Requirements
Must successfully meet all standards and requirements outlined in the applicable administrative rules governing Corrections Officer certification.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
Experience: Six months of experience as a Corrections Officer or equivalent work in law enforcement, police operations, or military service.
License/Certification
Valid driver’s license.
Other Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to use firearms and demonstrate proficiency through annual weapons qualification.
Must complete training at the Corrections Academy and obtain Corrections Officer certification from the Police Standards and Training Council during the probationary period.
Must successfully pass a physical agility test measuring the ability to perform physically demanding job-related tasks.
Must pass a comprehensive medical examination administered after a conditional job offer, conducted by a designated medical provider.
