A.T. Still University is seeking a non-exempt Campus Safety Officer on the Kirksville, MO campus. The Campus Safety Officer (Nights) will mainly work night shifts but may also be required to cover all shifts including weekends and holidays. This position reports to the Supervisor of Security. The Campus Safety Officer monitors security activities and provides protection and security for all assigned properties of A.T. Still University, Kirksville, MO campus.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
- Update electronic access permissions within the access control platform.
- Perform lost and found property functions, including documentation, inventory, and appropriate disposal of unclaimed items.
- Lock and unlock designated doors daily, following departmental protocols.
- Assist in routine and unscheduled patrols of University buildings and grounds to maintain visibility and ensure safety.
- Inspect premises daily for fire and safety hazards and immediately report concerns to the Security Supervisor.
- Conduct confidential investigations into incidents involving theft, loss, or misconduct, and complete accurate incident reports as required. (Note: Investigative responsibilities do not extend to matters governed by ATSU Policy 90-210 (Prohibition of Discrimination, Harassment, and Retaliation). Such matters must be referred to the Title IX and Civil Rights Coordinator.
- Interact with and question unfamiliar individuals on campus to ensure they have a legitimate reason for their presence.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency calls and critical incidents.
- Enter reports into the Report Management System (RMS) of safety and security-related incidents.
- Monitor and enforce campus parking regulations in accordance with University policy.
- Perform daily checks on the functionality of radios and other communication equipment.
- Maintain operational levels of fuel, oil, and coolant in the Campus Safety vehicle.
- Participate in the development and achievement of departmental goals and objectives.
- Perform additional duties and tasks as assigned or directed by supervisory personnel.
Requirements
Skills & Experience
- Prior experience in law enforcement, campus safety, or security preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Familiarity with safety procedures, emergency response, and investigative techniques.
- Competency in using security-related software, ID/access control systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Must be able to stand, walk, or patrol for extended periods and work in varying weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license required.
